How to Vanquish Self-Doubt and Fear of Not Being Good Enough

Daily Mission:

Estimated Time to Completion: 10-20 Minutes

For today’s assignment to gaining greater confidence and charisma: get a notebook of some kind that you can write down in. What you’re going to write are some of the goals that you want to accomplish in your life as well as why.

Then you’re going to write down some of the things you’re doing to reach those goals. Try to include as much detail as you can.

The next thing you’re going to write are examples of other people reaching those same goals, whatever they are. With this part of the exercise, it’s most helpful if you include a short version of where they started, what they did to get to where they are and where they are now.

Finally, you’re going to monitor your own thoughts you have about yourself and your goals. Any time you think something negative or discouraging you’re going to interrupt that though. This is called the ‘Wave Technique’ and is how I got out of depression. But you can also use this same technique to gain more confidence in yourself.

Here’s the short version of the technique:

  1. Notice when you have a negative thought about yourself or your goals
  2. Interrupt that thought and talk to your brain. Accept that you’re not where you want to be right now, but you’re making progress
    1. Then remind yourself of all the things you’re doing to make progress. And remember to include ANY victories you have along the way. No matter how small, always remind yourself of what you’re doing to put yourself in a good position to become successful at what you want
      1. Very important: try to focus on what you have control over first and foremost. But also include the wins you don’t necessarily have control over
      1. Example:
        1. You can control how many people you cold call, or network with or even just the work you put into what you’re doing. But you don’t have as much control over how many people sign up or do what you want
        1. Having said that, however, it’s important to focus on when you do get someone to sign up or buy from you. But when you do focus on these wins, make sure to remind yourself of how you got them. Which means reminding yourself of what work you put into whatever it is you did
      1. If you need to, talk to yourself about other people that you respect, where they started and where they are now. If they can do it then so can you because you’re putting in the same effort, the same work as them (and if you’re not then get out there and start doing it!) Because if you keep pushing forward then you’re going to breakthrough

That’s the short version, for the longer version check out this post:

What to Expect Tomorrow:

How many times have you thought to yourself “how are some people so confident? How can I even show confidence, what does it mean?”

Because I have. And through pure luck, I came across the answer while reading about science! There are actually two different parts of confidence; internal and external. Tomorrow we’re going to cover what confidence is and how to gain it! Then in part 2, we’re going to cover how to show it!

Tomorrow’s going to be AWESOME! It’s something I’m PUMPED to share with you 🙂
